Brief introduction of niobium tungsten hafnium alloy

A niobium alloy formed by adding a certain amount of tungsten and hafnium to niobium.

It was developed on the basis of niobium-tungsten alloy.

With the increase of tungsten content, the strength of Nb-W alloy increases, the ductile-brittle transition temperature increases, and the weldability and coating properties deteriorate. Adding a certain amount of elements such as hafnium and yttrium to Nb-W alloy can improve the coating property and welding property of the alloy, reduce the plasticity-brittle transition temperature and increase the creep strength. In 1962, the United States successfully developed NB-10W-10Hf alloy, and later developed into Nb-10W-10Hf-0.1Y alloy.

Niobium-tungsten-hafnium alloy can be divided into solid solution strengthening alloy and dispersion strengthening alloy according to strengthening mode.

Niobium tungsten hafnium alloy can be used in the manufacture of space shuttle, missiles, space power system parts and conduits in the long-term work below 1645℃.
