In which media is titanium in contact with other metals prone to galvanic corrosion? How can this corrosion be avoided or mitigated?

According to the different medium, the galvanic corrosion of titanium can be divided into two categories: the first type of media such as salt solution, nitric acid, acetic acid and seawater, titanium in this type of media has excellent corrosion resistance, if with another metal, because of the titanium surface oxide film makes it emotional, to ensure that she becomes a cathode in the galvanic pair, resulting in another metal forming anode galvanic corrosion; The second type of media such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid and canonic acid, titanium in such media may be in an active state, and may be in a passive state, if in contact with other metals, it is possible to increase the corrosion rate of titanium, but also may increase the corrosion rate of other metals. In order to avoid or reduce the galvanic corrosion caused by titanium in contact with other metals, the following measures are usually taken:

a. Add a completely isolated insulating material between the two metals to avoid the formation of corrosive batteries;

b. To avoid the formation of a large cathode and a small anode between the two metals corrosion battery;

c. Open the distance between different metals and change the position between them to avoid cathode pollution;

d. Adopt cathodic protection.
