What matters should be noted in the grinding of titanium alloy rod and Ti-6Al-4V (Ti Grade 5) alloy rod

Because the titanium alloy material has the tendency to fill the grinding wheel, it is very difficult to grind the titanium alloy rod and Ti-6Al-4V (Ti Grade 5) alloy rod. During grinding, the higher temperature rise generated at the interface between the metal and the grinding wheel causes the higher residual stress on the grinding surface, and the surface is no longer smooth.

These problems can also be basically solved by the following methods:
(1) Select the appropriate grinding wheel, such as silicon carbide grinding wheel, sand size is medium (60~80), hardness is medium (J~M), surface speed is 700~1200m/min, alumina (aluminum oxide powder or corundum) grinding wheel should be used at a lower speed, such as 550~600min. Medium granularity is also required.

(2) Lower grinding wheel speed and feed speed; Due to the low speed of the grinding wheel, the grinding temperature is low and less sparks are generated.

(3) With buffer or cutting liquid cooling agent cooling, with ceramic bonding and chlorinated or vulcanized cutting oil, good results can be obtained. No matter what type of coolant is used, it should be well filtered to eliminate the "fishtail" -like stain caused by the recycling of titanium particles.

(4) The titanium Mars may catch fire when it encounters the oil mist, but the oil is fully immersed in the workpiece, which can reduce this risk. The rust-proof ammonium nitrite solution can completely eliminate the risk of fire.
