Oxidation resistance coating for niobium alloy

Niobium alloy is indispensable to the development of the progress of oxidation resistance coating technology, although by adding Ti, Cr, Si, B, Al element can reduce the efficiency of niobium alloy oxidation, but these elements tend to lead to a serious loss of the alloy at room temperature shape, therefore in the alloy surface coating oxidation coating was almost the only measures of niobium alloy oxidation.

In the 1960s, the United States and the Soviet Union developed a large number of niobium alloy oxidation resistant coatings, resulting in aluminide coating, silicide coating, precious metal coating, ceramic coating and heat-resistant alloy coating and other systems, among which the silicide coating has been proved to be the best oxidation protection coating. The early coating is designed for niobium hafnium alloy research and development, mainly with the classic Si-Cr-Ti system, such as institute "815" coating, experimental test temperature below 1600℃, the actual application temperature is more in 1200-1400℃. After the niobium-tungsten alloy was successfully developed, THE company took the lead in the development of the corresponding anti-oxidation coating materials and processes. In the end, JTC-12 alloy coating was developed to meet the needs of different engines. The application temperature is 1400-1560℃.
